My name is Sara and I have a 7-year-old daughter named Jenni. Jenni and I have a loving bond with God and our prayers were answered when we found sanctuary and were welcomed to live at Casa de Alegria.
I believe the spiritual emphasis on management and the guidance provided by the staff are the defining elements that makes Casa a sanctuary. The emphasis on forgiveness really helped me deal with the history of abuse my daughter and I experienced. Scriptures given to me such as Psalm 37:4-6 and Jeremiah 29:11 have sustained me at some of my darkest moments, including when I learned that my daughter had been molested. I value many others but those have sustained me.
I never thought I would have an opportunity to go to school, but I am now attending Pasadena City College pursuing a nursing degree. The time allowed in Casa’s transitional program (2 years) may end before I complete my education but I will finish. Being able to support myself and my daughter without government assistance would not have been possible without Casa de Alegria.
The educational support and spiritual enrichment has been life changing for me.
Living at Casa de Alegria has made it easier to share my faith and love of Jesus Christ with Jenni. I have been able to strengthen my relationship with God.
In our daily prayers, we thank God for his love and for those who make Casa de Alegria possible. Thank you, Beacon Housing.

Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
- Psalm 37:4-6
